Dealing with the Great Disasters of the 20th Century from the Historical Perspective

Volume 1, 2004, Nr. 3

Jürgen Reulecke:

Dealing with the Great Disasters of the 20th Century from the Historical Perspective (Abstract)

Research into history, being fixed on spectacular hostile events and general social processes, has tended to ignore the generation-specific long-term psychological consequences of war-experiences and disaster. Not until recently has the »mental baggage« of affected persons come increasingly to the attention of a younger generation of historians. This biography based on historical experience and history-rooted psychological aspects represents an interdisciplinary »work-through« of individual and collective experiences of disaster including their long-term consequences.
