Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in an elderly patient after a motor vehicle accident (Abstract)

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may present many years after the original trauma; this has been reported in elderly people who experienced life-threatening situations during the Second World War. In contrast to the many studies about PTSD in younger people, there has been no report about the development of PTSD in the elderly after recent traumatic injury. We describe the case of an elderly patient suffering from PTSD after a road traffic accident. We show the successful therapy with trauma-specific treatment: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
